Space for Engaged Architecture, as part of the Faculty of Architecture at BUT, invites to a roundtable with an architect Angelika Hinterbrandner. In her practice, but also through the online magazine Kontextur, Angelika addresses the image of architecture and the processes behind the production of the built environment – such as the working conditions in the industry or what it means to be a woman in the architecture world today. The roundtable will be in English on Saturday, 21 January 2023, at 2 pm at the Brno Gallery of Architecture as part of the project Dear architects… — Architecture as Labour.

Spots are limited. Please register: https://forms.gle/rsMZcmwBGXJDukiP9

Angelika Hinterbrandner is working in a variety of formats and collaborations within and beyond the field of architecture. Her current research focuses on the political and legislative framework of the financialization of housing and the implications of the climate crisis on the built environment. She worked with ARCH+ and Brandlhuber+/bplus.xyz, among others, on the topics of land politics, smart cities and neoliberal planning policies. Since 2019 she is part of Kontextur addressing the possibilities and responsibilities of future architects. Since 2021 she is teaching at ETH Zurich, currently at the Chair of Architecture Heritage and Sustainability Prof. Mariam Issoufou. Together with five other actors from the fields of architecture, urbanism, research and communication, she initiated spaceforfuture.org in 2022. The initiative is rooted in the housing debate and stands for more affordable, sustainable and equitable access to housing for the 99%.

Kontextur is a digital magazine spinning around architecture. kntxtr enables its community to pose questions to peers in a safe and as threshold-free as possible space concerning matters ranging from working conditions and pay, over gender equality to the meaning and definition of the profession. kntxr does not only care about the built environment. kntxr cares about the people working in this field and their concerns. It enables architects to re-define their self-understanding through new forms of connectedness and exchange in the digital sphere.

In what sort of crisis is architecture?
Can architects help to change the system of endless growth?
Who cares about architecture?
And who cares about and for architects?
Or do we have to wait until architecture fails?

The project is realized in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture of the Brno University of Technology and with the financial support of the Statutory City of Brno, the Ministry of Culture and the Czech Architecture Foundation.
